March 2001
Pat and I attempt to shoot
a script called A College Sex Farce in Pat's Boston University
dorm. We shoot one scene, then cancel the production due to time
contraints. In an attempt not to be total failures we shoot Magma
Head.
July 2002
Pat and I, having moved
to LA earlier in the year, sell A College Sex Comedy (as
it is now titled) to David and Scott Hillenbrand of Hill & Brand
Productions.
Sept. 2002
With financing in place,
the Hillenbrands begin production. The film shoot lasts nearly a
month and is shot primarily on a soundstage in Castaic, CA, with
a few days of location done at Balboa Park in San Diego.
Nov. 2002
With principal photography completed, the film goes into post-production.
5.20.03
The film has its premiere screening for cast, crew and investors
at the Director's Guild Theater in Hollywood. We fill the whole
700+ theater with friends and friends of friends, and the screening
is a success; more laughter than we had hoped for. Now the title
of the film is Dorm Day Crazy.
7.20.03
We have somehow joined forces with National Lampoon. Now the
title is National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze.
8.1.03
Lampoon's plan is to give the film a "test release." Which
basically means that they're going to release the film in select
markets around the country to see if people like the film. If people
do, then they'll keep adding cities. I think it is a waste of cash,
but it's not my money. No one listens to the writers anyway.
There is going to be an on-going press
junket. They are going to send the actors they can most exploit
(i.e., the most famous ones), and Pat and I get to tag along as
well. In some cities they'll throw us out there (if they think anyone
gives a shit who wrote the movie) and the rest of the time we'll
stand around picking our butts and getting free drinks. Should be
cool, thinks me.
Sept 2003
Dorm Daze opens
on around 30 theaters in Minnesota, Missouri, Florida (and we think
Sacramento, CA). It is welcomed with lukewarm reception.
Dec 2003
Dorm Daze hooks
up with MGM and Showcase Entertainment for the DVD release.
Feb 2004
Dorm Daze is
screened at the American Film Market (one of the largest international
film buyer markets) in Santa Monica.
3.14.04
N. David Prestwood informs
us that he saw Dorm Daze on pay-per-view while staying
at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
3.19.04
Pat and I record an odd
interview for the Dorm Daze DVD, which we hear is coming
out in August.
8.10.04
Dorm Daze released nationwide
on video. Due to an error by Video Store Magazine that gets published
on the IMDB, we all think the movie made $10 million. Though within
a month or so the film finally does top the $10 million mark.
